A party of twenty six pilgrims from Bolton Priory, led
by the Revd James Turnbull recently completed an eleven day pilgrimage
to the Holy Land. Twenty three of the pilgrims were members of the Friends
of Bolton Priory, and they included the chairman and three members of
the committee. The first few days were spent at Tabgha on shores of the Sea of Galilee where we were to begin “Following in the footsteps of Christ.” The weather was glorious which helped as the days were long and tiring, but most rewarding. We then moved on to Jerusalem where we were able to continue our pilgrimage, and finally in the early morning we walked the Via Dolorosa reflecting and praying at the fourteen stations of the cross. We were also able to travel to Qumran by the Dead Sea and see where the “Dead Sea Scrolls” were hidden. Eucharist was celebrated at the Mount of Beatitudes, Mount Tabor, St George’s Cathedral Jerusalem and finally on our way home at Emmaus/ Abu Gosh. We thank Revd James Turnbull for caring for us spiritually and for his outstanding leadership. Thanks are also due to his most able assistant, Rosemary Murgatroyd (formally friends secretary and now Church Warden) who did so much to make the pilgrimage a great success. We were indeed a Happy band of brothers and sisters who had followed in the footsteps of Christ and returned home safely to Yorkshire. |
