I have included 5 prints by Jack Howe, as Jack has been an enormous influence on my photography. Jack and I used to go wandering along the beach at Seaton Carew, the North Gare, the headland at Hartlepool, and other apparently uninviting places. On these excursions, he taught me to look for the importance of light and clouds in the landscape.

Jack was a photographer for over 50 years, and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society in 1994. He was active in the North Eastern Camera Club world for as long as he had been active in photography.

Before he retired, Jack worked in the coal mining industry.

Jack died on 30 March 2006, at the age of 90.

The prints above are only a very small selection of the prints that he produced over the years, but are particularly meaningful to me.
