For twenty years or so I was involved almost exclusively with monochrome printing. Although I also took colour slides, my main interest was in monochrome photography. I developed my skills from that of a raw beginner - in 1980 - to becoming an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society in 1993. A lot of my later work was influenced by Jack Howe, who helped me to appreciate the use of light and clouds in a landscape, and to appreciate that even in the industrial surroundings of Teesside there is much to excite or please the eye.
